Georgia GRABS CTRL for Nexus NI

Belfast woman, Georgia Behan-Doyle recently combined her passion for events with raising funds and awareness for local causes by establishing GRAB CTRL, a community platform focussed around feminism and equality for all. Georgia’s inaugural event with GRAB CTRL was in aid of Nexus NI and raised a fantastic sum of £1200.75.

Commenting on how her idea came about, Georgia said:
“I wanted to break the silence on something that many women and men have experienced, yet they receive little to no support for their trauma. It’s shocking how many people are unaware that Nexus NI provide free counselling to sexual abuse survivors. I created GRAB CTRL in the hope that people can regain control of their lives, and let them know that they are not alone. Creating awareness of this very real issue is vital, and it’s imperative that we continue to push the message that we will not tolerate sexual violence or feel stigmatised should it happen.

We ran a market in Artcetera Studio in Belfast, showcasing crafts from talented women; hosted a film club; and raised money online through a raffle with prizes generously given by artists and businesses in Belfast, England and Wales. I think the fact that so many people donated generously is proof in itself how massive this issue is. I can’t thank everyone involved in the project enough and look forward to continuing the cause with some wonderful people I’ve met as a result of working with Nexus NI.”

Karen Dunlop-Wainwright, Community Fundraising Lead with Nexus NI said:
“Georgia worked very hard to organise not one but three different fundraising activities and we would like to thank her for all her efforts. This is a terrific amount to raise and will help Nexus NI to provide specialised, therapeutic counselling to survivors of sexual violence.”

If you would like to get involved and support the work of Nexus NI please contact Karen on 028 9032 6803 or email fundraising@nexusni.org.   We are establishing a new Friends of Nexus group and would love you to get involved.
